Ross Bjella: President and
Visionary Leader

As the President of a large pharmaceutical warehousing and business services company, Ross grew frustrated trying to help his employees navigate their healthcare benefits. Workers frequently stopped by his office with urgent questions: How would a medical bill be paid? Was a procedure covered? What would it truly cost? Ross had no clear answers. Even worse, when he dove in to assist, he discovered that mastering the U.S. healthcare system—its intricate insurance rules, payment structures, and opaque pricing—demanded specialized expertise. He realized the system was engineered to extract maximum profits from employers and employees in the most confusing way possible.

Ross quickly concluded that this lack of transparency was deliberate. The healthcare landscape had been overrun by self-serving players, all siphoning funds at the expense of those footing the bill. Many consultants charged hefty fees while providing minimal value. Third-party “wellness” or “advocacy” vendors promised massive savings but delivered none in hard dollar results. Data analytics firms dumped thick binders of useless reports without actionable cost-cutting advice. Health systems inflated prices for routine procedures that independent doctors offered at half the cost.

Determined to change this, Ross made it his mission to empower employees—regardless of their healthcare knowledge—to understand their benefits and access the highest-value, highest-quality care. For employers, his approach promised verifiable, hard-dollar savings and a strong ROI. In late 2012, he launched Alithias—Greek for “the truth”—which now serves over 150 companies and 100,000 lives nationwide.

Ross holds an MBA in Marketing and Finance from the University of Southern California and a BS in Biology from the University of Minnesota. He is regularly sought for board discussions, investor strategies, and speaking engagements on topics like innovation, pharmaceutical logistics, government regulations, medical claims analytics, and healthcare transformation.

Ted Starling: Technical Visionary and Advocate Leader at Alithias

Since joining Alithias in 2015 as a Care Navigator and Benefits Support Specialist, Ted has evolved into a cornerstone of the organization. Today, he oversees the technical backbone of the Alithias Care Navigation platform, managing all interfaces and seamless data exchanges with our third-party administrator clients.

Ted is fiercely committed to empowering the Alithias advocacy team with instant access to critical plan documents and eligibility data, ensuring swift, accurate support for our clients. As the technical implementation lead, he serves as the primary liaison for data partners and the initial point of contact for employer clients, bridging technology and trust.

Alithias’ cutting-edge reporting systems illuminate the value and service we deliver, and Ted drives this transparency. He manages a robust reporting environment, providing clients with detailed insights on call volumes, service metrics, validated savings, and data essential for administering incentive-based or tiered health plans.

With a rich background in customer service, advocacy, and human resources—honed as an HR manager for Whole Foods and a regional bank—Ted brings a unique blend of empathy and expertise to his role.
